Field Day Plans
Special Presentation on DSTAR by Steve Koone, KA4YMY and Ken Johnson, KC4YOZ

WHAT IS D-STAR?

D-STAR stands for Digital Smart Technologies for Amateur Radio.  There are two D-Star Repeaters located in the Charlotte Region.  There is one currently located on Spencer Mountain in Gaston County on 440 which is connected to a gateway on the internet.  On this repeater you can link to other D-STAR repeaters nationwide on the gateway.  There is also one located in Charlotte on 2-meters, this one is not yet on the gateway.  Steve Koone and Ken Johnson run these repeaters and do a great job with them.  So come out and learn about this new and exciting mode of amateur radio.

JUNE 11, 2009 THURSDAY AT GASTON COUNTY PARK, DALLAS - HAMFEST COMMITTEE MEETING 7PM

JUNE 23RD AND 24th DRILL

On June 23rd and 24th there will be a FEMA drill and a state-wide interoperability drill.  This drill will last from approximately 7am – 8pm on those days.  All ARES members that are able to participate should let the EC, Ben Melvin, KM4C know of your availability.

2009 ARRL FIELD DAY – CASAR PARK – June 27th and 28th

This will be the second year that we will be holding field day at this location.  Last year was a great success and this year should be even better.  Come on out and experience the fun of Field Day.  Make sure you come out to the club meeting on the 9th to sign up to help.  There are lots of ways you can help:  setup, radio operation, kitchen duty, or teardown.  Last year our group placed 7th in NC in the 2A category.   This year we will be using our club call sign K4KUT for the first time.  K4KUT was the call sign of our founding member Malcolm Spangler.  Come on out and enjoy all the fun!

May 2009 - Shelby Amateur Radio Club Net Report
Al Whatley, Net Manager | Susan Melvin, Assistant

Net Meets each Monday and Friday at 8:30PM on 146.880

We had a total of 289 check-ins, this is up 19% from April. We had 9 nets in May with 7 different net controllers. Top net controller was Greg, WA4YBP, 37 check-ins, Monday, May 25. We still are seeing a little less than 50% SARC members checking in. I hope more club members will support the club nets in the future. Our newest net controller ran 2 nets and had a total of 59 check-ins, GOOD job Everett!
